School Disrupted: Rediscovering the Joy of Learning in a Pandemic-Stricken World.

Despite the title, this book was not what I was expecting. Greene, a recognized entrepreneur and the founder of Kiddovate, works as a creative expert to assist companies in disrupting the status quo. He correctly views the Pandemic as a disruption but, rather than focus on lessons learned or “unlearned” (her vocabulary) in a year of online learning, hybrid models, and some face-to-face, she makes a huge jump by comparing her year of homeschooling in 2016 to the Pandemic disruption.  Although I see this as a false premise, I find her parent perspective an intriguing one. Her lessons learned will provide nothing new to educators, but anyone who accepts the gospel of Sir Ken Robinson and Alfie Kohn, and quotes Toffler, should be listened to.  Having said that, Greene’s book is probably better for parents to read than educators. Certainly, it would be a great book for a parent reading group and would open the door to lots of key questions about what schools are and what they could or should be.
